Stories from Dominican continue
It truly is a small world. It was discovered that one of the travellers with Rudy & Saddle Up already had a connection to one of the staff at the resort but didn't know it.....a love story. Blanche travelled with her husband and daughter to a resort in Dominican over thirteen years ago. Their daughter was twelve. While on that trip, they met a young seventeen year old man who was a musician. Their daughter and this young man struck up a friendship which continued through letters when they returned to Canada. Over dinner on this trip, Blanche asked the name of one of the staff, saying he looked very familiar. Sure enough, it was the same young man from all those many years ago....Santos. Santos had joined Rudy & Saddle Up on stage and shared this special story of his first love.
January 20, 2011
Stories from Dominican
One special story to share from Rudy & Saddle Up's trip to the Dominican is the marriage of James LeBlanc (lead guitar player) to Marlene Davis. After it was determined that the band would be taking this trip, James and Marlene decided to make it an even more special event by holding their wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe during the week the band was scheduled to be there. So on the Saturday of the trip, James and Marlene, in front of family and friends - old and new, were married. It was a beautiful ceremony. Congratulations to James and Marlene.

Hot, Hot, Hot!!!

The band was joined by a large group of family, friends and fans on their first tour. Rudy & Saddle Up performed two very successful shows at the Gran Bahia Principe in La Romana to raving reviews, literally from around the world. Over the next few days, please revisit this site for more pictures and stories of this trip.
Rudy & Saddle Up have so many people to thank. First off, they would like to especially thank Denise Johnson from The Travel Broker in Kingston for making all the travel arrangements for the band as well as all the people who joined them on this trip. A special thank you to the Gran Bahia Principe in La Romana, Dominican Republic and their wonderful staff for making this an unforgettable experience. Shout outs to William, Santos, Antonia, Denise, Fernando, Daniel....and so many other staff for their hospitality; to Manny from supplying the sound for the shows. The band would also like to thank everyone who joined them on this trip to support them in their first "Sun, Sand and Fun Tour".
If you joined the band on this trip or enjoyed seeing their performances during your trip, please email manager@rudyandsaddleup.com and share your pictures and comments. We would love to hear from you.

Organizers and their volunteers raised over $7,000 today alone through admission sales, barbecue and silent auction. Congratulations! Who Has More Fun!
What a great fall day on Saturday and what better way to spend it than at the Storrington Music Fest for a couple hours in the afternoon before heading to the 180th Kingston Fall Fair to headline the evening under the Big Tent. Congratulations to the winners of the Junior Division of the Kingston Country Singing Showdown who performed on stage earlier in the afternoon. Great young talent.
Rudy, James, Bill and Ron enjoyed their evening performing for their first time at the Fair and by all accounts, it was a success show. Really don't know what other band have members who have more fun than Rudy, James, Bill and Ron. Ron and Rudy had a little extra "bonding time" before the show when they "accidentally" got locked in the band trailer by James. Don't know who was more surprised...the two security personnel who happened by and heard knocking and opened the trailer expecting to find a lost child or Rudy and Ron sitting on the floor of the trailer wondering when they would be missed. Laughs all around.

Labour Day Weekend
Wilson's Tent & Trailer Park in Lynhurst was a buzz of activity on Saturday. Their annual Hallowe'en in September was going on as members of Rudy & Saddle Up arrived at the park. Strong winds and threatening sky did not dampen the enthusiasm of campers as they made final touches by tarping the tented stage area. At the first note, campers filled the area in front of the stage with their "liquid refreshments" and were ready to party. The sky cleared and the stars came out for the entire performance. Shout outs to Jane for suggesting the band to the Camper's Association; to all the campers who moved and tarped the stage area; to all the new owners of Rudy Cowboy Hats (wear them proudly); and to everyone, young and old, who danced the night away; and extra special thanks to Marlene's Catering for putting on such a great "backstage" spread for the band and crew. Rudy and Management would like to especially thank the members of the band, Ron Bulman, James LeBlanc, and Bill Hogan for their continued dedication, sense of humour, their professionalism and amazing talents....you guys are "the real deal".

Good Times in Pembroke
Always a great time at the Lasso Saloon in Pembroke; packed house both nights. What a weekend for celebrations; birthdays, wedding celebrations, golf tournaments, meeting the "new family". Shout outs to Annie (Happy Birthday!) and thanks for coming out both nights; to the Moores - what a great family; to Lois, Jordan and the staff; to all the people who purchased band merchandise....nice cowboy hat!; to Todd and Beth for jamming to the wee hours of Sunday morning with the band; to Marlene for her hear for sound; to Lianna for being "The Informer"; to Lianna's family for the great barbecue and for opening your homes to the band members and, of course, to the continued support of the band by The Lasso Saloon. But no weekend would be complete without the "Story of the Weekend". This weekend's winner would be from Bill, bass player of Saddle Up for sharing his story...while outside the bar during the last break of the night, he spotted a guy walking down the sidewalk carrying a seagull....yes, I said seagull. You never know what you will see!

Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day.....that is certainly the feeling Rudy & Saddle Up members and their crew felt like after five very successful gigs in four days! After the short evening gig for Music in the Park in Kingston on Thursday evening, it was fun-filled nights at Raxx in Kingston on Friday night and the 31st Annual Puck & Ball Tournament in Amherstview on Saturday night. Two very late nights and early mornings were followed by a delightful afternoon gig at the beautiful Lower Beverley Lake Park in Delta. Beautiful afternoon for everyone in attendance with great music and a pork barbecue. Rudy and the guys are already booked for next Civic Holiday Sunday. Thanks William! After afternoon gig it was a very fast tear down and quick jaunt to Sunnyside Campgrounds in Westport. Owners of this private campground really know how to show their campers a great Civic Holiday night of entertainment. Rudy & Saddle Up had an awesome time performing for everyone, adults and children alike. The response from the campers was greatly appreciated. Hope to see you all again next year. Special thanks to guest musician, Steve Ball for helping out on keyboard this weekend. Management would also like a special shout out to the band members for their great performances over the weekend and shout out to their "better halves" for all their support on the weekend as well.

Supporting the Royal Canadian Legion
Rudy and the boys enjoyed their debut performance at the Royal Canadian Legion in Napanee on Saturday night. Members and non-members alike were ready to enjoy a night of dancing and partying with the boys. The band helped to support the Legion by donating a portion of the funds raised from the sale of handcrafted, stained glass "Support the Troops" ribbons created by their manager sold Saturday night back to the Legion. The offer continues for all orders submitted to the Napanee Legion. Frank....where are you?
Rudy would like to thank Lois and the staff of the Lasso Saloon in Pembroke for asking Rudy & Saddle Up to cover for a band that cancelled for Friday night and for their patience. Rudy took the drive from Kingston; Glen and Harrison from Gananoque and Brockville but Frank decided to take the long way from Ottawa.....he went to Kingston instead of Pembroke! Oops! After four and half hours of driving, Frank finally made to Pembroke and the rest of the night was filled with great music, dancing and fun. Our manager had a previous committment Friday night so was unable to join the band in Pembroke and take all her usual pictures of everyone. If you have any pictures you would like to share, please send them to Joanne@musicinyouproductions.com and she will be sure to post them to this site.

Happy 141 Birthday Canada!
Rudy & Saddle Up had a very busy day celebrating Canada's birthday. Their day started out in beautiful Lower Beverley Lake Park in Delta, Ontario. After a four-hour show in Delta, the boys made the trip to the Strathcona paper Centre in the Town of Greater Napanee to continue to enjoy a beautiful day and celebrate with the citizens of Napanee and area.
